Appalling customer service, not only did they lose my booking twice , when i turned up for my booking they did not have the car i rented meaning i had to change my plans as i needed an estate (as booked) not a saloon, had to chase to get my deposit back. The guy that runs it is totally clueless and literally could not care that he had let me down!!! this is the worst run business I have ever come across and an embarrassment to the lakes
This is a very unreliable business stuck in the dark ages. I called 2 months prior to reserve a car for the Easter weekend. I was told it was booked and asked for a confirmation number but was told they didn't do them and just to turn up. I called the day before to check whether they could pick us up from the station and the manager said that whilst he remembered having the conversation with me, he didn't write down the reservation so there were no cars left. This threatened to spoil my entire family holiday as there was no way to get to our hotel without a car. They are the only car hire in the central lake district and charge 2 x what those outside do as they know this (30+ per day for a tiny car). What we did, and we will do every time we return is to pick up a car in Kendal which is a few miles from Windermere. If you're on the train from london/glasgow instead of changing to the Windermere train, get off at Oxenholme and Enterprise car rental Kendal will pick you up for free and take you to their offices a couple of miles away. There you will have car hire half the price of Lakes car hire, a friendly reliable service, no need to walk 25 mins to lakes car hire from Windermere or take an extra train - just an extra 15 minutes drive if Windermere is your destination.
It is true what everyone says: you have to follow up (in my case, at least twice) to get the deposit back. I am still waiting. (5 months since my hire): 5 follow up calls and still no deposit returned despite his reassurances. This man is a criminal. DO NOT use this company.
I recently arranged in June 2015, car hire for my 74 year old mother and her 80 husband from Windermere Car hire.I noted that some of the reviewers had commented that the company had not returned their deposit.I highlighted this as a concern to my parents, but due to location they chose to continue.My parents let me know today, 13th August 2015, that the owner/manager told them when returning the car, that their deposit would be repaid onto their credit card within three days, two months later and after several requests the company has still not returned the deposit.I can only suggest, that you should not use, under any circumstances this untrustworthy company
Despite other reviews here I got my full deposit back within 1 week of date of return. Car had 1/3 fuel and I returned it with more than that.Picking up from the station (Windermere) was nice and the car wasn't that dirty, just a bit dusty.
