Amazing food. Hotel and staff great. Rooms warm an comfortable. Beds a bit small though. But over all a wonderful break. One ov the best places to stay in the lakes.
It was really hard to review this hotel. I had a wonderful stay but that was mainly due to the company and weather. On arrival lovely and clean, amazing views over the lake we were really happy with our choice. Bedroom was small. If you stayed more than a few nights it would feel cramped. The carpet at the door was filthy - room 24.The spa was more of a leisure facility. The indoor pool was really cold, the outside tub wasn't too hot, but that could have been because outdoor temperatures were incredibly low. A lovely little facility and needed after a long walk.Walking - sadly there were not any public walkways into Bowness, your surrounded by mansions along a lakeside which is stunning. But...Because of the residents etc there aren't any public walkways, we walked on the main road for 45 minutes, luckily it was quiet.Hotel staff - the staff were lovely, always smiling but... The restaurant manager really ruined our morning, whilst at breakfast he barked orders at his staff and for us, this made us feel really uncomfortable. Food was lovely, great breakfast and bar menu we got a lovely sharing platter.
The hotel is lovely in that it is beautifully decorated and located. The views from the restaurant and bar are great. It was one of the coldest weekends of the year when we visited and they didn't have the fire on (as advertised in the brochure) When we asked about it some staff didn't understand the question and the lady at reception said something was stuck up the chimney so they don't light it. We ate in the restaurant and were very cold throughout the meal and several others complained too (one lady kept her coat on). We were however provided with a portable radiator next to our table which helped a little. The food didn't live up to the hyperbole in the hotel literature but the waiting staff were very efficient. We'd have stuck around after dinner for a few drinks if it wasn't so cold and they had the fire to relax in front of.
We enjoyed our stay, the staff were lovely, very helpful and friendly. The only spoiler was she shower door that came off the hinge. I loved how clean the hotel appeared. But I hope some maintenance works will be done to the walls and and other places that need more attention when cleaning. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel welcome. Also may want to check. Found 1 to many tiny bugs in the bathroom. I felt uncomfortable after the 3 one appeared, but I was also about to check out.
A lovely old hotel.. sadly the rooms are a bit dated and in need of a good overhaul, but the main reception and bar are lovely and the lake views are spectacular. Nice to be situated away from all the hustle & bustle of some of the busy towns, its still near enough to jump in a taxi for a meal/night out. Nice on-site spa- small, but enjoyable. Breakfast was okay.
