Absolutely top quality. It's surprising the number of younger people who were appreciating the very top quality of the Gilpin Lodge. Years ago, it was the domain of the older generation, who appreciated classic style and had the disposable income to afford the prices.This place is stylish, luxurious, relaxing, comfortable and top, top quality.The chef is a lovely guy too, who because it was a quiet day, came into our dining room and had a 15 minute chat with us.
This is a really fantastic hotel to visit for a short break. Being so close to Bowness & Windermere, it's ideally located for activities around the Lake District, from fell walking, sailing & exploring to the less energetic mooching around shops!The hotel is decorated in a contemporary / classic style, with a gorgeous lounge & bar area. There is a spa available although we didn't have time to try it out.We stayed in the main hotel building, where the rooms are relatively small but nevertheless comfortable with all the amenities you would expect.The food is absolutely wonderful. We had the vegetarian tasting menu, which was innovative with deeply rich tastes as well as lighter tones.It isn't cheap but the service is first-class & highly recommended.
If you're looking for something on a special occasion then look no further. Best meal I have ever had. Amazing staff and treated special from start to finish. As a whole it was the best dining experience I have experienced. Will be visiting again.
Sunday lunch. Food was stunning, as you'd expect from a very well established and respected kitchen. Well deserved of the star. The goats cheese starter was smooth, tasty without the overpowering kick often found with cheaper goats cheese. The beef was tasty, a little chewy for my taste but nonetheless fantastically accompanied by perfect veg. Desert was beautiful. Highly recommended.
